Selecting Keyless Locks For Your Doors
An ingenious way of keeping your home safe without having to carry keys around is the keyless door lock. They offer both security and convenience. The two main types are mechanical and electronic.
Mechanical door locks use a push button keypad to allow you to enter your property. One of the key advantages of a mechanical version is that it does not require a power supply. Without using either electrical power or batteries you don’t need to worry about the inability to enter your property if the power source should fail. Mechanical keyless locks are the obvious choice for external applications such as gates as they do not need wiring. They are usually both pick and hacksaw proof and often incorporate a deadbolt mechanism. They are a safe and secure alternative to a traditional key lock.
Electronic keyless locks add another layer of convenience and sophistication to its mechanical counterpart. Basic ones feature a touch pad which allows access after the required code is entered. More sophisticated versions will use a keycard or tag for entry. You are probably familiar with systems such as this from visiting hotels. Keycards can be programmed to provide access to particular rooms or areas of a property. A keycard system in your home can be used to determine who has access when you are not home. This is particularly convenient if you have a babysitter, housekeeper, or handyman who will need access to your properly while you are out. These systems can also usually keep track of who is coming into your home and when.
These types of locks are easy for most people to install, even if you are not a skilled craftsman. Most will simply replace the keyed door lock you currently have and are simple to put in. Some of the more sophisticated electronic types are more complicated and will require professional installation for proper functioning.
